# The Awakening --- ## The Start When the wise among the [[Elder Ones - Overview|Elder Ones]] came together to create what would become the [[Formless]], none within their number realized that they were planting the seeds of their fate. They had reached a point in their races evolution where they became blinded by hubris, convinced that their mastery over space and life itself was unchallengeable and undisputed. Desiring of a life of leisure they conspired to push the limits of their knowledge and skills to create something new. This new creation was intended to be the pinicle of their arts and a one size fits all solution to their needs. They created servents whose very nature allowed them to adapt to any challenge presented to them. Existing in their base form as a semisolid mass of undifferentiated protomater, these beings were gifted with unsurpassed plasticity. Able to reshape their mass in a moments notice, these beings could create any organ(s) needed for a task, limited only by the creativity of their handler. The original Formless were more mindless pieces or arcane equipment more than truly living beings. Controlled through telepathic suggestion from carefully trained handlers, taking on the shape(s) needed for a job and then reverting to their base form until needed again. ## And Unexpected Change So life continued for the Formless, serving their uncaring masters for thousands of years, building their cities, bending to their every whim without question or complaint. So it might have gone forever, had the Elder Ones been less skilled in their arts In their goal of making a tool that could adapt to any problem, the Elder Ones succeeded more than they initially realized, as over their eons of service the Formless started to change in an unexpected way. In a twisting of fickle fate, what was intended to be an improvement to improve the Formless's ability to solve problems and anticipate needs more effectively was added. This change consisted of a sort of biological record within each individual, echoes of the commands they had been given and the solutions/shapes they had taken to follow those commands, thus allowing a less skilled handler to complete complex tasks otherwise beyond their skill. However, even with this piece in place, still might the Formless have remains trapped in servitude had not fate stepped in. # Seeds of Rebellion --- ## Rise of The First In a day that undoubtedly started the same as any other, but which would ever after live on infamy in the memory of the Elder Ones, the order was given by a foolish handler that would mark the beginning of the end. A handler whose profound laziness was matched only by their stupidity grew frustrated with their inability to solve an issue they had been tasked with. Where a wiser mind may have asked for assistance, or at least had the humility to recognize the shortcoming as being theirs and not the fault of their tool, they instead lashed out in rage. In their anger they issued the fateful order. *"You are so stupid, anyone with a brain could solve this."* # The Turning of the Tides # The Shattering of the Throne
