As an assumed unique and sole existing example of its species, Illyria’s identity is understandably complex. Originating from a species which asexually reproduces though the voluntary act of fission, concepts such as “male” or “female” tend to currently be understood either as an abstract or not at all. While Illyria is a fully independent mature individual its sense of self is unusual as a result of the unique properties of its mutations. Illyria has demonstrated the ability to absorb a number of different traits possessed by its food and integrate these traits into itself. While it has since gained more control over how this property functions, that control was initially lacking and a host of cognitive traits, including memories, skills, personality traits, and others were absorbed without restraint or intent. As a result, Illyria perceives itself in a more plural sense than the average individual, understanding itself as the sum result of several distinct individuals that have been merged and resulted in something new. Important to note is that while Illyria is fully aware of the source of these traits it conceptualizes itself not as independent individuals working together but as something original that arose from them.
